Pathways into VC

Venture Fellow programs

Many VC firms offer part-time "Venture Fellow" or "Venture Partner" roles for practicing clinicians:

  • Commitment: 5-10 hours/week
  • Compensation: Typically carry (equity) rather than salary
  • Duration: 1-2 year terms, often renewable

Angel investing

  • Minimum check: Usually $1,000-$25,000
  • Platforms: AngelList, SyndicateList, alumni networks
  • Time commitment: Variable, deal-by-deal

Full-time VC

  • Roles: Associate, Principal, Partner
  • Background: Usually requires MBA or significant operating experience
  • Transition: Most common after fellowship or startup experience
Accreditation requirements

Many investment opportunities require "accredited investor" status. Understand SEC requirements before committing capital.
